How to compare window replacement quotes

Two totals are easy to compare. Two different projects are not. Before choosing a proposal, check that each contractor is pricing the same openings and describing what the work includes.

Start with the same scope

Give each estimator the same list of rooms, affected windows and concerns. Keep a copy of the photos you send. If you change the number of windows or a product option, ask for the revision in writing so you are comparing current proposals.

Resolve the gaps before choosing

Mark differences that matter to your home: a different opening style, glass option, trim scope or installation approach. Ask why each option is being proposed and what would change if you chose an alternative.

Keep an initial range separate from a final proposal. Ask which measurements, product details or access conditions still need confirmation. If a quote includes allowances, ask how the final amounts will be agreed.

Read the warranty documents alongside the proposal. Ask who handles a service request, which parts of the work each document covers and whether any conditions or exclusions apply. Keep these documents with the final approved scope.
